Zed House Project

Thermal economics is proud to have provided insulation for the groundbreaking Barratt Developments Zed house project. This experimental home has been built on the University of Salford campus and is testing cutting-edge technologies and solutions to find a practical way to build zero-carbon homes.

The Zed house has been fitted with an advanced monitoring system that includes 95 sensors that continually gather energy usage data. Over time this data will provide a picture of which technologies and solutions provide the greatest energy savings and will help to shape housing designs of the future. As one of the largest volume housebuilders in the UK Barratt Developments require solutions that will not only be simple, practical and reliable but also cost-effective so that house buyers are not shouldered with excessive price increases when the requirement for zero carbon housing comes into force.

The Zed house utilizes TE Platinum Ground Floor Insulation in combination with an underfloor heating system and air source heat pump, the ideal solution to reduce energy usage in a well-insulated home.

TE Platinum Ground Floor is a high-performance EPS insulation with an A+ BRE Green Guide rating. To find out more about TE Platinum Ground Floor insulation click here and to find out more about the sustainability of our products click here.
