Continuing its commitment to developing product efficiencies through its R&D to deliver innovative solutions for the construction market, Thermal Economics has been recognised in the Structural Timber Awards 2018 for its\u00a0Alreflex ThermaEdge<\/a>\u00a0product in the Product Innovation category.<\/p>\n

ThermaEdge is a bubble foil insulation strip designed to reduce cold bridging at the edge of concrete slabs. As well as preventing cold bridging, the product is water and rain resistant which also helps to prevent water penetration.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

One of the challenges of installing perimeter insulation is that different work gangs often complete different parts of the build, but there is an overlap at timber and masonry junctions such as the construction junction between the ground floor (typically concrete) and the timber-framed external wall.\u00a0 Groundworkers will install the foundations and the floor; carpenters will install the timber-frame and bricklayers will finish the outer-leaf.\u00a0 But who installs the perimeter insulation?<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The ease of installation of Alreflex ThermaEdge is that it\u2019s very easy to fit for any tradesman working on site.\u00a0 Unlike foam boards, Alreflex ThermaEdge is flexible and fits over the DPM; adapting to whatever shape is required.\u00a0 It is simply fixed to the sheathing board of the frame and allowed to drape into the cavity at foundation level; and the low-emissive surface of the Alreflex ThermaEdge converts empty air into an insulating layer protecting the concrete floor from forming cold spots where condensation and mould growth can occur.<\/p>\n

Winners will be announced at the awards on\u00a010 October 2018\u00a0at\u00a0the National Conference Centre, Birmingham. The Awards categories recognise innovative solutions and ground-breaking developments from across the UK timber industry.<\/p>\n
