\nIt\u2019s quite an interesting question to start with, because signing off a Robust Details checklist can also start with this question! It\u2019s the first item on the checklist for:<\/p>\n

\u2022 E-FC-4;<\/a>
\n\u2022 E-FC-12;<\/a>
\n\u2022 E-FC-14;<\/a><\/p>\n

So why the question?
\n<\/strong>
\nWhen using one of the Thermal Economics Robust Details<\/a> separating floor constructions, it can be monitored which sites have received training from us and which haven\u2019t followed our guidance. As per the quality assurance requirements of the scheme, Robust Details perform \u2018spot check\u2019 sound tests on a number of building sites using a Thermal Economics Robust Detail.<\/p>\n

The reason for this test is to ensure that the Thermal Economics Robust Detail is meeting the performance requirements of the scheme, rather than to catch the builder out. But Robust Details will inform the Building Control Body if the pre-completion testing shows the floor fails compliance with Part E.<\/a><\/p>\n

It is best practice to receive training from Thermal Economics as a quality assurance procedure, that ensures the site manager, supervisors, screeders and dry-liners all understand the Robust Detail and how to build the floor to the exact requirements of the specification.<\/p>\n

What does training from Thermal Economics involve?
\n<\/strong>
\nWe will agree on a time and date with you to visit the building site, and deliver a short \u2018toolbox talk\u2019. We\u2019ll talk about the correct installation of the IsoRubber sound insulation, and other requirements of the Robust Detail specification; and give everyone an opportunity to ask questions. Ideally, this should be a time when the site manager, supervisors, screeders and dry-liners can all be present.<\/p>\n

We\u2019ll provide the training free-of-charge, because we want our IsoRubber sound insulation to deliver the sound performance results that you need; whether that\u2019s simply compliance with Part E, or whether you\u2019re working towards the Code for Sustainable Homes \/ BREEAM \/ Home Quality Mark.<\/p>\n

And it\u2019s really free?
\n<\/strong>
\nNot only is the Thermal Economics site training free-of-charge, it can also save you money!<\/strong> We\u2019ll be able to help you to spot common mistakes, such as:<\/p>\n

\u2022 Incorrect materials;
\n\u2022 Poor installation;
\n\u2022 Missing items.<\/p>\n

Any deviation from the Thermal Economics Robust Details approved floor specification will mean that the floor is no longer covered under Regulation 41 of The Building Regulations by the Robust Details scheme, and may be subject to pre-completion testing. This may also mean that up to three Code for Sustainable Homes \/ BREEAM \/ Home Quality Mark are no longer automatically awarded.<\/p>\n

If Robust Details select your site for sound testing and the floor fails the test, you may be required to carry out costly and time-consuming investigative work; such as digging up screed. By getting training from Thermal Economics for you and your site operatives, you are following best practices and reducing the risk of failing a sound test!<\/p>\n
